Berkshire won the MCCA Championship for 2017 at Banbury on Wednesday when they beat Lincolnshire by 6 wickets.  Reigning 2016 champions Berkshire also became the first Minor County side to complete the double of Championship and Trophy.

Banbury CC provided excellent facilities for the players, officials and decent sized crowd.  The groundstaff did a great job in providing a good pitch and then protecting it from the rain on the third afternoon so that play could begin mid afternoon on the last day on a good batting surface.

Berkshire's side had 9 current HCPCL players, plus one who only recently moved away.  The HCPCL contingent consisted of five Henley players (Stewart Davison, Jack Davies, Richard Morris, Tom Nugent & Euan Woods), three Datchet players (James Morris(capt), Joe Thomas and Chris Peploe) and one from Slough (Ali Akbar Raja).

Andy Rishton, most recently with Finchampstead but now of Loughborough Town where he is at University, is the ex-HCPCL player.  The only player without HCPCL links is Oli Wilkin of Ealing CC.

Henley players Waqas Hussain and Harry Jordan, Finchampstead players Andy House, Dan Lincoln and Billy Rogers played in previous matches in the Championship.

Congratulation to Berkshire CCC on their third MCCA Championship win in the last eight seasons.
