Sher delight as Cross fall again

7/17/2010

Gerrards Cross 158-10 (53.1 overs)
Slough 161-4 (34.5 overs)
Slough won by 6 wickets

Gerrards Cross produced a dismal performance on Saturday as they slumped to their second consecutive defeat, losing at home to Slough by 6 wickets.

After being inserted on a damp wicket, the Cross’ batsmen failed to apply themselves properly and were undone by some disciplined Slough bowling. Bobby Sher was the chief destroyer taking 4-47 and was well supported by Ikhlaq Nawaz (3-31); Ali Akbar (2-19) and Duncan Bradshaw (1-13) as the Cross were all out for a paltry 158.

The Cross briefly showed they had the stomach for a fight as Tom Hampton (3-32) and Richard Knudsen (1-19) reduced Slough to 22-3. But Sher (54) and Bradshaw (67*) took the game away from the Cross with a fourth wicket stand of 110 as they galloped over the line.

With the league table being so tight, there is little margin for error and the Cross will need to get their act together when they travel to Farnham Royal next week.
